About Narateen

What is a Narateen group?

Narateen groups, which are part of the Nar-Anon fellowship, are formed to provide support to teenage family members and friends of addicts. A Narateen group is a safe environment where teenagers can share and work on their recovery. Meetings are closed except by group conscious and limited to teenagers who are coping with the addiction problem of a family member or friend.

Through group meetings, young people learn effective ways of coping from listening to the shares of each other, while gaining some peace of mind and hope for a better way to live. Members help one another by sharing their experiences, strength, and hope.

Facilitators guide and share knowledge of the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions by keeping meetings and groups focused and on topic.

Where are Narateen meetings held?

A Narateen group meeting are held virtually, using the Zoom platform. Camera’s are on throughout the meeting allowing facilitators to ensure safety of our teens.
Our meetings are held every Sunday evening from 6:30pm to 7:30pm (SAST)
If you would like your teen to join please send an email to narateensa@gmail.com

Who may serve as a Narateen facilitator?

Any Nar-Anon member who regularly attends meetings is welcome to become a Narateen facilitator. It is required that every Narateen group have two regionally certified facilitators, registered with WSO.

Certification includes successful completion of a police clearance certificate.

Relatives and legal guardians of teens may serve as Narateen facilitators; however, this is discouraged as some members of the group may feel uncomfortable speaking freely and openly.

Should you wish to serve as a Narateen facilitator please contact us via email narateensa@gmail.com
